This post is an ode to the 3 girl groups of my choice.. SO.. let’s serve up a little VINTAGE.. Madame X.. AND LATER.. some Vanity 6.. (I am an OG .. I DON’T FUCK WITH APPOLONIA 6) well i did like A MILLION MILES but that was the BRENDA OF IT ALL ..LOL..anyway class today’s lesson is.. about :MADAME X
.Madame X released “Just That Type of Girl“, their first single from the self titled album Madame X on Atlantic Records in the late 80s. “Just That Type of Girl”, quickly climbed the dance and R&B Charts to #4 Billboard. The group’s producer, Bernadette Cooper from the Solar/MCA group Klymaxx, organized the group as she and the Madame X members envisioned the group’s concept. The Klymaxx sound heard on such hits as “The Men All Pause” and “Meeting In The Ladies Room” was blended with Madame X’s music and fashion personas to create a brand new sound. Group members, Iris Parker, Valerie Victoria and Alisa Randolph brought with them artful inspiration and vintage sass, similiar to what you may have though of Labelle in their eclectic hey day.. , their bold fashion and mysticism. Another essential element in the group’s sound and style is their shared love for the music of artists like Prince, Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly and The Family Stone and Grace Jones. Passing up their opportunity to sign to Solar Records, Madame X was snapped up by Sylvia Rhone, who headed the Atlantic Records’ R&B division. When Madame X debuted their imagery was ground-breaking and they influenced the artistic standards in the R&B and Hip-Hop scene. Following up the release of Just That Type of Girl, they released the singles, “I Wonder” and “I Want Your Body” as well as the title tracks for motion pictures such as “Action Jackson” starring Sharon Stone and Vanity. Madame X’s songs continue to be played and sampled, most famously on Michael Jackson’s hit song “Keep It In The Closet”. Original CDs are cult-collected(TRANSLATION: hard to fucking find)
Sadly Alisa Marie Randolph succumbed to breast cancer in 05.. they say she remained beautiful til the bitter end.. 😦
Classic joints from these ladies…. Cherries in the Snow, I Wonder, Just that Type of Girl, Madame X, Marry Me, shoot , me and my teenage homegirls used to LOVE THEM
So If you remember.. take this trip back in time with us .. when female performers were actually DOPE.. and not ALLL ABOUT ASS.. and if you don’t remember.. that’s what Auntie Beejay is here for.. “See you gon’ learn today” …
The Parliaments..”All Your Goodies Are Gone”.. . in 1967 George said.. “Let me give it to ya’ll like this here”
Parliament …In 1974, after many more joints and trips… George STILL REFUSED the loser’s seat., ya’ll gone get this work.. REWORKED IT….!!!. “All Your Goodies are Gone”. off the Up for the Down Stroke LP.. ( that’s real 70’s .. read it in a Frankie Crocker voice..”off the elllll peeeee ) HAHAHAAH … . the more gangsta , funk face version…
and then in the 80s Herby Luv Bug sped it up .. and VOILA.. Salt N Pepa
Everybody Get Up !!!!
shut up ….. you know ya’ll used to fuck with this… hahahah ..
Actual post date … May of 2009 YOU MISSED IT KID.. hahah LISTEN..THERE IS LIVE FISHBONE IN THIS BITCH FROM 87… GET IN HERE !!!
This is an actual excerpt from 1964’s This is Ska. Observe the swagger of the dance. This was the beginning of the first wave of the ska movement. Started in Jamaica in the early 50’s, ska was the seed of what begat Reggae, Roots, and PUnk respectively. I personally rocked with the 1st and 2nd wave of ska.. and of course Fishbone during all the waves lol.. This was a movement that spread to the US and had us all pushing Vespas, dressing two tone, and rocking monkey boots, creepers, and bitch boots. But it’s not too late.. go cop you some Specials, English Beat, or Madness today.
Desmond Dekker R*I*P came thru with joints like “Rude Boy Train” and “The Israelites”
Ya’ll ain’t fuckin with Mr. Dekker’s jumpsuit.. He got the Maurice White tightness while representin that 2tone all day doggy lol..observe that Rude boy 2 tone motif… A little Prince Buster mixed with Johnny Taylor.. I ain’t mad.. (shakes head and lights joint.) I AM NOT MAD..
The Wailers started out as a ska band in the early 60’s … You can tell on such joints as “Concrete JUngle” and “Stir it up”. A bit slower but this was you know when the “pick it up” turned into “cool it down”
Stir It Up
nods are also given to Prince Buster and Lee scratch Perry.. during this period.
omg.. omg. finally the day has arrived.. Grace Jonesis penning a memoir.. She always swore that she never would do it .. but all praises , the Sepia Goddess has decided at the tender age of 65 TO SHARE and I am elated. She figured it was time and that if she didn’t do it somebody else would.. .. Oh . Grace.. She truly is the reason why I sing.. She reveals her experiences with everyone from Andy Warhol to Arnold Schwarzenegger. I REALLY cannot wait.. Gallery publishing has announced that the book is as of yet untitled but it should be hitting shelves next Fall.
Look around the blog.. Do a Grace search on the blog.. We have soooo much Queen Grace over here man…

We want to send our most heartfelt condolences out to the family and friends of Mr. Leroy ” SugarFoot “ Bonner, frontman and guitarist for the illustrious OHIO PLAYERS, also known as...” The Ohio Untouchables”. Mr. Bonner coined a vocal situation that would later be used by everyone from Roger Troutman to Larry Blackmon… He passed away at that age of 70 but had been touring all year and still had dates to fulfill in 2013. It is good he passed doing what he was born to do. At press time, there are still no details as to how he died but keep it here as we will be following this story and updating accordingly. We actually found out via Dawn Silva’s (Original Bride of Funkenstein’s) facebook page.
He was a beast to watch live and a survivor off of the stage.. The Ohio Players paved the way for most of the midwest funk of the 70’s and 80’s Soul eras respectively. Who can remember his vocals on joints like ““I Wanna Be Free”,“Skintight”, HELL, and Love Rollercoaster to name a few. TVONE’s award winning docu-series aired an excellent episode of “UNSUNG” featuring THE OHIO PLAYERS in 2011. Check their schedule because I am sure they will be rebroadcasting it in commemoration of a brotha , that according to Grandma on FUNKY WORM “was funkier than 9 cans of shaving powder” LOL.. We will miss you and your EPIC FRO Mr. Bonner..
Sit back and relax and listen to some of the funk provided by our FUNK FOREFATHERS..

This man soared under the production of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (The Time).. so yes .. he was yet another brick in the Minneapolis Music Machine.. (so thank Father Prince) although he is a country boy from Mississippi. He shined (both aesthetically and theoretically) ahem.. and teamed up many times with our girl Cherelle for classics like Innocent, Saturday Love, and Never Knew Love Like This… they were our Captain and Tenille, our Elton John and KiKi Dee if you will.. ENOUGH TALKIN.. get out your best cha cha shoes.. and let’s get to steppin!!!!!!
We gone start it off with one of my favorites… “SUNSHINE” This is a live performance for The Prince’s Trust in 1989.. yess they was rockin with our boy IN EUROPE AND WHATNOT.. We here at this blog cannot keep up with all of the untimely deaths that have occured within a 30 day period.. We clown and post things of a more “party” nature here at bamboobanga but TRUST we surely do feel the hole in the sky that has been made by some of our legendary ICONS.. The black community and the world as a whole have recently lost Etta James, Don Cornelius, and WHITNEY HOUSTON.. words cannot express..
We chose not to add to the blogosphere , material that was already out there ad nauseum. We instead encourage you to go to the tried and trues like Bossip.com , ConcreteLoop, Crunk and Disorderly or the blog of your choice to get that full coverage ..then come back here and get into some of this art, music, and other stuff.. ..
All jokes aside though.. .. we did want to express our deepest sadness and our sincerest offering of gratitude for these gems giving ALL of themselves so that we could be inspired. Thank You.. and may your journeys be peaceful!!!!
We will miss Etta James, Whitney Houston, and Don Cornelius. We will not judge them for any missteps they may have taken in life, but instead will bask in the contributions and body of work left for us to cherish FOREVER..So much has been said about these trailblazers and we decided that we would just keep it 100 and not get involved with the drama created by some of it. We understand how tough these times are and how beautiful life is . So I guess what we could take from this is .. Live Each Day as If it’s your last.. and tell those that you love that you love them everyday.. Don’t wait .. We also learned that the media are some racist bastards too but that’s another post.. Whoo Saaa!!! Lighters Up.. PEACE!!
Here is a pretty awesome mash up ..Whitney w/ Rhianna.. No really it’s dope LOL..

We always grab like 5 lighters each and the joke was..” I NEED 25 LIGHTERS ON MY DRESSER” LOL.. so clearly it needed to be posted.. and clearly I may have surpassed the 25 lighters rule….. Don’t judge me, when you blow trees you know the damn lighters always come up missing!!!!!! One must have back up !
